2019/20 Newsblog Term 1 Week 6

Hello All

What a wet period of weather we have been having! - please could you make sure children have waterproof coats with them everyday - please ensure that the coats are named clearly and somewhere where the children know to look at as, as I’m sure you can imagine, we have many duplicates.  Last week saw the school studying scientifically;  building our understanding of Uganda and the new link we are making with a partner school there and working out ways of supporting our well-being as part of Mental Health Awareness Day - the school was flooded with a sea of happy yellow colours that day - thank you for supporting your child to feel part of this and for the donations you made - more news on that next week.

Reminder Friends of Tadpole Farm AGM
I have put in details of the Friends group, our version of a Parent Teacher Association, again, as we have a dedicated small band of people who ran this last year but a school of our size should be able to get a core committee of 15, with another 10-20 people happy to take on one off roles… please support this wonderful group, who do so much for your children - we want our community to live and breathe the school values of service, generosity, friendship and to show this in the way we work together.  If you can’t make the meeting then please get in touch with the committee, details below, to show your appreciation of all they have done and the offer of support you can give in the coming year - thank you.
Our AGM will be taking place on Wednesday 16th October at 7pm at school, please come in by the main entrance and we will direct you to the meeting.

The meeting will discuss last year's events, monies raised, next year's events, key roles within the committee and any offers of volunteers/committee members.
It's really easy to get involved, you don't need to have loads of time to give we have many roles that take very little time.

This year we are hoping to get enough people on board to do different roles all year round for example, used uniform resales, raffle prize co-ordinator, class reps for each year group, raffle ticket sales co-ordinator, sponsorship facilitator etc

We are hoping to go with the 'many hands make light work' approach!
All the money raised through the FOTF go back into school to provide equipment and experiences that enrich our children's time at school.
Coming up this year............. Rock n Roll Bingo, Christmas Cards, Carols by Candlelight refreshments, Christmas Raffle, Santa Visit, Easter Disco, Scarecrow Trial and The Summer Fayre!!
Please come along and have your say, if you can't make the meeting please drop us an email using fotf@tadpolefarmcepa.co.uk to share your thoughts and ideas.

Parents Meetings Reminder
Parents meeting are being held over the next two weeks, see above calendar for dates - you should all have had your appointment time confirmed when you booked - if you didn’t book then a time has now been allocated to you.  There is one appointment slot for each child - where parents are separated and, for whatever reason are unable to come to the same appointment slot, we suggest that one parent comes for the face-to-face meeting and we will make a phone call to the other parent in the next two weeks; then we suggest you swap around for the Feb/March meeting. We do have a significant number of families that this situation applies to and we need to respect the work/life balance of our teachers by restricting the meeting slots to one per child.

Football Match Report
Another week, another game and this time we took the short trip across Tadpole Lane to face Red Oaks. With our Y6's returning from residential, we were able to field a team of both Y5’s and 6's and the boys got off to a great start. Owain had the best chance before he was able to square the ball to Kaden to get his first goal of the game. More opportunities followed, with chances from Zack, Owain and Kaden narrowly missing the target; the boys went in at the break 1-0 up.
An early second half goal then followed, as Kaden grabbed his second of the game, after a good counter attack from midfield. We were nearly rewarded again as some great play between Joseph and Connor was thwarted only by the post. However, we were soon cheering again as some great solo play from Joseph saw him smash the ball into the back of the net, leaving the keeper little chance of keeping the ball out. Harley then had some excellent chances to make the scoreline even greater; however his efforts only just missed the target. It wasn't long before we were cheering again, as Kaden managed to grab his hat trick and saw us four nil to the good. It was Red Oaks who finished the stronger team, as they constantly came on the attack but were only to be frustrated by our 'defensive rock,' Zack, who for 35 minutes worked tirelessly to prevent Red Oaks from scoring. Sadly though Red Oaks did manage to score in a very strange circumstance, as the ball was adjudged to have crossed the line after hitting the post and going in before being stopped by Muhammad, unfortunately there was no VAR in this game, so the goal stood.
Despite conceding late on, it shouldn't hinder the boys performance as they worked so hard to gain the vital three points. Also a BIG thank you to all the parents for their continued support in arranging lifts to the away fixtures; without your help we wouldn't be able to play.
Mr Spencer and Miss Wood

Parent Elected Member of our Local Board - Request for Nominations
Just a reminder - please get involved and make a difference - from last week’s blog - see last week for more details … If you would like to stand for election please complete the emailed nomination form and return it to the school. You may also include a short personal statement to support your nomination, which should be no longer than 100 words.
The closing date for nominations is 12 noon on 18/10/2019.

Eco-Committee Update - Crisp Packets
Please keep collecting your crisp packets and send them into school over the coming weeks. We are continuing to collect them to be recycled to raise money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. Schools in Swindon have raised £11728.00 over the last 6 months from donations, so please keep them coming! Thank you!

Lunch Boxes Reminder re No Nuts/Sweets
Just a reminder - please do not send sweets or any nut based products in lunch boxes.  We have children in school with allergies to nuts and nut based products and they can be sensitive to proximity reactions. If you need ideas re healthy lunch boxes please see https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/school-packed-lunch-inspiration.

Please could you check that all lunchboxes are clearly named on the outside where your child knows where to look - we have many duplicates!!

Reminder - no school run clubs on this week or next
Just a reminder there are no school run clubs this week or next due to Show Me Sessions and parents meetings.

Future newsblogs - new email sent from address starting next week
As part of reviewing processes and procedures, we will be using a new sent from address for the ‘newsblog is live’ email that is sent each week.  The address will be newsblog@tadpolefarmcepa.co.uk and will be an unmonitored email box.  If you want to query something on the newsblog please send your emails to school@tadpolefarmcepa.co.uk.  If you inadvertently reply to the newsblog email, you will receive an automated reply telling you that it is an unmonitored inbox and asking you to resend your query to school@tadpolefarmcepa.co.uk, who will answer within school hours.  For those of you that have been with us a while, you will know that I do try and reply to any enquires you send to me following the newsblog…  but the volume is now becoming unmanageable and often the response is one which can just as easily be answered by others. I hope this improvement will mean that all your queries will be answered within a more timely fashion.

Message for YN Parents
Please can YN children who are attending on Wednesday 23rd October bring in their favourite toy to share in show and tell. Please only send one small item and, although we will obviously do our best to look after things, nothing too fragile/valuable/sentimental/etc if possible, as accidents do happen!

Message for YR Parents
