Friends of Tadpole Farm (FOTF)
Last year's committee did a sterling job raising funds for the school and now we need to make a start of shaping this year's fundraising.  The first meeting will be on Thursday 4th October at 7:00pm at school.  We will be looking for volunteers for key roles to run the year's events.  The teams who have led this in the past 4 years have all put in a lot of work to make a successful basis for the Friend's Group.  Please come along and see how we can develop it again this year.  There are already events in the diary and they need your support to bring them alive!

YR Lost Small World Items - Please Help!

Some of our small animals have escaped!  Please can you check bags and pockets for a few of the class' favourite small world toys please? We're missing a baby turtle, a baby koala and a couple of baby elephants. Thank you! :)

News from St Andrew’s Church
If you’re new to Tadpole Farm, you’ll soon discover that there are close links between the school and the local parish church, St Andrew’s, which is tucked away off Tadpole Lane between Lyall Close and Blunsdon Abbey Park.  You’re welcome to join us there any Sunday at 10am and most Sundays we have activities for children.
We also have a service at Tadpole Farm once a month and the next one is 16thSeptember at 4pm.  This is an All age service, which begins with refreshments, includes music, a Bible Story, children’s craft and prayer.  Everyone is welcome whether you normally attend church or haven’t ever been.  One family who joined us last term said “We left the service in high spirits and felt we had made some lovely new friends within the Church community and we look forward to continuing this journey with St Andrew’s Church.”   You can read more of this ‘review’ here.
For full details of everything that happens at St Andrew’s, visit our website or see our noticeboard next to school reception.
I’m around the school at drop off time once a month and the children get used to seeing me around school so do stop me and say ‘hello’ if there’s anything you’d like to chat about. I look forward to getting you know you all better in the coming year.

Health and Safety Update

It's been a smoother start to the school year traffic-wise than we expected - thank you for your cooperation and efforts in walking/cycling. There have been some comments re the chicanes/traffic calming measures and I have passed these on to Crest.  I have also passed on to Crest the concerns over uneven pavements and raised drains and will update up when I have a reply.
If your child attends an out of school, after school club like martial arts and you come back on to the site before 6:00pm please could you leave the drop zone clear for our parents who pick up from Lilypad.  The Drop Zone is not a parking area, it's just for dropping and picking up from school. Thank you for your cooperation with this; I will also be asking the club leaders to remind users too.  After 6:00pm LilyPad is closed so parking after that time is fine.
Beat the Street Competition

From the 12th September to 24th October we will be taking part in Swindon's Beat the Street Competition - aimed at encouraging walking cycling and jogging.  There's lots of information on their website and the children will be learning all about it and receiving their packs on Wednesday 12th September. In a nutshell, there will be Beat the Street boxes around swindon and children (and adults) can earn points and win prizes by tapping their card/fob on the boxes to record their journeys.  There are 4 boxes within Tadpole Garden Village and Tadpole Lane so plenty of opportunity for tapping for points! Watch out for information coming home this week.

Years 3 and 4 Reading Tree.

In Lower Key Stage Two this year, we have set up a challenge to see which class can read the most books. When a child has finished a book, they discuss it with a teacher then put a coloured leaf on our reading tree. Each month we will announce the winners in Worship and that class will receive a certificate for their class board plus additional prizes at other times. All children will have a school book but, because  we want the focus to be on reading and understanding books, we have decided that the majority of children will not have reading records that they take home. Please support your child in this challenge, reading is key to all learning.

Emergency Contact details

If your child was with us last academic year, please look out for Emergency Contact Cards that we are sending home for you to complete and return to ensure our details remain up to date.  If you have joined us this academic year then you have already been given one of these cards - we do have a few outstanding which it's important you return asap as we need to be able to contact you in an emergency.

Applying for Additional Funding

As you will all be aware, schools are facing funding difficulties.  One way we can provide additional resources for your child and others in school is through Pupil Premium Funding. If you feel you may be eligible then please apply.  Even if your child is in YR/1/2 and so already gets Free School Meals, we would be grateful if you would apply anyway as school may also receive extra funding to help support your child.  Follow this link to Swindon's on line application

School Milk Cool Milk

If your child is currently under 5, we’re delighted to confirm that we have arranged for them to receive free milk at school, funded by the UK Government's Nursery Milk Scheme.

When your child turns 5 or if they are already over 5, you have the option to pay for their milk. We have made arrangements with the UK’s leading school milk supplier, Cool Milk, to supply milk at a small subsidised daily cost.
What you need to do:
Visit as soon as possible and select "Register your child for milk", then follow the on-screen instructions to register and pay
A portion of fresh, chilled milk at mid-morning break provides protein, calcium and other vital nutrients, important for your child's growth and development. It's also a great way to bridge the gap between breakfast and lunch, re-hydrating your child and helping them to concentrate in class.
Should you have any queries regarding your child's registration or milk supply in general, please do not hesitate to contact Cool Milk directly on or call 0844 854 2913.

Clubs sign up open Monday
The sign up process for this term 1/2 clubs is open on Monday, closes on 12th September at 3.30pm and clubs will be announced on Friday 14th September.  Please complete one form per child.  YR do not have clubs until Term 5/6.  These clubs are run by school staff on a voluntary basis – to take account of staff members work life balance, each teacher is only asked to volunteer to run clubs for a limited number of terms.  We brought this guideline in following staff well-being feedback and it’s just working it’s way through now.  I know that some parents may be disappointed with the clubs on offer but we have done the best we can with the resources available and will look to expand the paid for clubs as the year unfolds.  If any parent volunteers, who are DBS checked, would like to get involved in running free clubs this is something we would be more than happy to consider – perhaps you have a particular talent or skill you would like to share?
Just a reminder – Clubs will run in weeks beginning 17/9, 24/9; 1/10; 8/10; no clubs week of 15/10, 22/10 and 5/11; clubs are on week beginning 12/11, 19/11, 26/11, 3/12 – no clubs week of 10/12 and 17/12 - if your child attends WIMS football/drama/ dance/martial arts, paid for clubs, arranged by outside groups they will let you know session dates for those.
All clubs run from 3:30 - 4:30 pm and pick up point is the front double gates, regardless of year group.
