2018/19 Newsblog Term 2 Week 7 - Happy Christmas

Hello All

Another huge thank you to the FOTF team for their help in organising the Carols by Candlelight event. Thank you all too for coming along to watch your children and for supporting the school by purchasing raffle tickets. I’m sure, like us, you all enjoyed hearing the lovely singing and readings by our children.  See below for an update on the fundraising the FOTF team have led this term - we are very grateful to the team of volunteers who have enabled this to happen.

The bulk of this week’s blog is new dates for terms 3 and 4.

From all of the staff, we wish you a happy and a peaceful Christmas and New Year. Thank you so much for you kind words and generous gifts and we look forward to seeing you in January and hearing all about your Christmas adventures.

FOTF Fundraising

On behalf of the FOTF, I am delighted to announce that the recent Christmas events have raised £2051.12. A fantastic amount, I’m sure you’ll agree. Thank you again to all of the volunteers and to you, the parents, for your generosity.  It has been lovely to have parents, who weren't involved in the events, asking me to pass on their thanks and positive comments to the FOTF team - the work of the FOTF is very much appreciated.
The visit from Father Christmas was supported by the FOTF elves and was much appreciated by all of the school community.

Christmas Jumper Day

On the last day of term we raised £185.80 from donations which will go to Save the Children. Thank you to all those who gave money at this time of the year.

School Dinners

Please make sure that you have been online and booked your children’s school dinners for Term 3 Week 1 by 2/1/19.

Swimming Payment

We still have a number of overdue payments for Y2 Swimming sessions. Please use ParentPay to resolve this or contact the school office for further information.

Breakfast at Breakfast Club

Just a reminder that only children who arrive before 8am are able to eat breakfast at breakfast club as we have to deploy staff where the majority of children are. We have had an increasing number of children arriving after 8 a.m. that have not had breakfast.

Junk Modelling Resources

After a busy Christmas, you may be looking for a way to get rid of some of those cardboard boxes, and other containers, without visiting the tip. We are happy to receive any junk that you think would be useful for junk model making in school.

Flu vaccinations

The flu vaccination team are organising a catch up for anyone who missed the flu clinic this week in school. To arrange, please contact the team on 0333 3219838

Class request - YR

We would gratefully receive any donations of spare pants, socks and clothes as we now have no spare clothing in YR.  If your child has borrowed any of our spare clothes please return them so we can restock - thank you.

Class request – Y1

If you have any old t-shirts you’re looking to get rid of, we would love to recycle them as painting aprons.

2018/19 Newsblog Term 2 Week 6

Hello All

A huge thank you to the FOTF Committee and their band of volunteers for the two Christmas Disco events they ran this week – it was lovely to see so many parents involved, enabling the children to enjoy themselves (lots of screeching as well as great dancing and singing!) and be safe and cared for at the same time.   Our YN performed their Nativity Tableau, for many of them, their first performance in front of parents – well done staff team and children and thank you to all those YN parents who were able to join us.  Christmas lunch on Wednesday was much enjoyed by pupils and staff alike – a credit to the kitchen team for catering to such a high standard, we are lucky to have you working with us.
This week we have the Carols by Candlelight event, with the Raffle Draw, on Wednesday and then Christmas Jumper Day on Friday – the last day of term.

Carols by Candlelight arrangements
Our Carols by Candlelight event is this coming Wednesday 19th December.  We hold this event outside so that as many of you can come as possible – the school hall is not big enough for this.
Timings: We aim to start at 6:00 pm but ask that all Y1 to Y6 children are back at school by 5:15 pm and are dropped at the school hall; those children who are at LilyPad will be brought to the school hall by LilyPad staff. After dropping your child, please make your way to the side gate off the car park and in to the playground, where FOTF will be selling hot dogs, mulled wine, tuck shop treats and canned drinks – so please bring your money with you… in change if possible.
Raffle tickets will be on sale up to 6:00 pm.  Refreshments will be on sale, quietly, all the way through the evening and the raffle will be drawn at 7:00 pm.
What to wear: Obviously we will be outside and so children should come to school dressed as warmly as possible – not school uniform – with hats and scarves and Christmas tinsel etc.
Who will be where: The children will be inside the games area (the fenced bit in the middle) and parents/friends/family around the outside three sides of the games area.
What to bring: We do have some floodlights coming but would also advise that you bring a torch or lantern so you can be sure of seeing where you are going - the more lights the better! We will email the song words so you can have them on your phones, as we did last year – that seemed to work really well and will save paper.  We don’t intend putting out any seating – please feel free to bring your own or ask a member of staff if any of your party needs a chair.
Collection of children at the end: After the raffle is drawn at 7:00 pm – we will pass the children back to you by class name (so check you know the name of your child’s class) – it would help us keep the children safe, enabling us to check they are going with the right person, if you could stay back from the collection point until your child’s class is called.

Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas Hair
Save the Children’s official Christmas Jumper Day was last Friday but we decided it was a great way to finish the term so moved ours to Friday 21st December. Save the Children suggest a £2 donation this year, but we recognise that this time of year is hard for many families so ask that you give what you can if you can. The children may wear their Christmas jumper on Friday and can wear jeans/own choice of bottoms etc. if they would like to, i.e. they don’t have to wear school uniform.
Some of the children have asked about Christmas hair decorations – these can be worn any day this week, though we ask that Christmas earrings are of a small stud type only, not dangly ones, which might get caught up at playtime.

Christmas Cards – an alternative option

Just a reminder that, as last year, children can bring in one card for the whole class if they want to or write a Christmas message for the class on a piece of paper and we will display it in the class.
