A letter (from Mrs Philpott, our PE Coordinator (Miss Evans as was)) and sponsorship form concerning the visit from Jack Rutter on Friday 29th September will be coming home with your child this week. The aim of the event is to inspire the pupils to take up sport generally, but just as importantly to encourage them to discover and then pursue their passion in life. All children, whether they have completed a sponsorship form or not, will need their PE kit in school on that day as they will be taking part in a circuit type fitness activity.

Reception parents - message from Mrs Holt and Mrs Longhurst
We are so pleased with how well the children have settled into Reception so far. Many child are already saying goodbye at the door and coming into class, on their own, to join their friends for stories.
Next Friday, all the children will be in for the whole day. This may mean that the reception entrance may get a bit congested. Can we ask that, if your child still needs some support to come into class, you stay by the entrance door and let the other children come in first so they can get settled and then come on in as things quieten down.

A couple of reminders - Water bottles should contain only water and not juice;  it's really important to put your child's name in clothes as many of them have the same; there is no afternoon session on Wednesday this coming week; all children need coats every day please.

Year 3/4/5 parents - message from Mr Spencer
Please could KS2  parents/pupils to bring any unwanted newspapers/magazines into school on Monday. We need them for creating collages as part of our project.
Also, could you make sure that your children have coats this week as many didn't have them last week.

Year 1/2 parents - message from the KS1 team
A reminder that swimming starts this week so please make sure permission slips and payments are made asap. The children do both PE and swimming at the Sports Centre so, Year 2 only, should come in to school on Wednesday in their winter PE kit.
A coat reminder for these classes too plus only water in water bottles please.

LilyPad Snack menu
A new Lilypad snack menu is attached to the email that notified you of this blog and will be displayed on the noticeboard by the school office.

Reception for 2018
The application process for next year's Reception class is now open - see www.swindon.gov.uk for details.  We have regular tours available - see school calendar.

Questions and Answers from Meet the Teacher events and first week back
conversations
Q: My child says they don't get playtime after lunch - why is that?
A: The children go in to lunch in rotation - YN and YR are always first and then the other year groups take turns through the week.  The children may have play before or after eating their lunch depending on when their year group goes in for dinner. All children have roughly the same amount of time outside.
q: Do children other than Y2 come in to school wearing PE kit?
A: No, we do this for Y2 for speed on swimming days as Y2 do both PE and swimming at the pool and they would be weighed down with bags otherwise!  All other year groups should bring PE kit in to school on Monday and take home on Friday each week if it needs a wash.
Q: Can I park in the Drop Zone if I'm walking around to YN or YR?
A: Sorry no, you need to park safely elsewhere as the Drop Zone is for drop and go only.
Q: Can I use the side gate by the car park to come in for pick up time?
A: Sorry no, when collecting please use the side gate by Main Entrance for YN, YR and Y1 collecting; the front gate for Y2 and wait outside the side car park gate for Y3/4/5 to come out.  If you have collected and the side gate is open then you may use it for exiting the site but the teachers will be locking it as soon as the Y3/4/5 children have gone so please look towards gate and check before you walk that way.

Requests for Absence
A reminder that, if school is open and your child is well enough to attend, then the expectation is that your child will be in school everyday.  Absences will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.

Healthy Lunch Boxes
Just a reminder that lunch boxes should be balanced and healthy and should not contain any nut product or confectionery.  Useful ideas - https://www.nhs.uk/change4life-beta/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes#2ppqgd2QErM8rWrM.97
