Almost the New School Year...

Hello All,

I hope you are enjoying the end of the summer holidays and thought you might find this blog useful for planning diaries etc.  This blog is quite long so you may want to settle down with a cup of tea before beginning!  In this blog:

  • Dates for the New School Year
  • First Day Back celebrations
  • LilyPad Update
  • Arrangements for Dropping Off and Picking Up
  • Uniform Reminders

Dates for the New School Year

Inserted below, also attached as a pdf to the email you should have received and will be on display on the school noticeboard (new board outside main entrance) and website calendar, are 3 calendars, one for each set of two terms, and an overview of 2018/19 term dates.  To give you as much notice as possible of events etc,  the calendars cover the whole year - obviously things will come up but I have endeavoured to keep timings and patterns of things happening the same each term and will give you as much notice as we can of any additions.

First Day Back celebrations

On the first day that the children are back each year we like to do something a little different - some children have lots to talk about from their holiday times, others less so; some children relish the thought of coming back to school, others less so; some children have met up with friends many times, others less so - we find that a shared day of celebration eases everyone back in o school in a fun relaxing way and gives them a shared purpose and focus for chatting and rekindling/making new friendships.   This year’s theme is all about carnival - a joyous celebration of colour and life.

In previous years we have had capacity to invite parents to join us for the afternoon but this year we are inviting you to come along at 3:00 to join us for a colourful and noisy carnival procession.  Please gather in the area beyond the school’s front fence and, from there, you will join us, if you wish to, on our carnival procession.

Nursery and Reception - children should come to their normal sessions in school uniform - they will be doing carnival crafts and getting involved in the carnival atmosphere.  If you have these in your recycling could they bring in a small plastic bottle with lid.  All other materials will be provided.

Y1/2/3/4/5 - children may come to school in the morning in brightly coloured clothes - football kits are acceptable (I’m just putting that in because it’s  question I’m often asked when we do something like this). We’d be grateful for any of the following - small plastic bottle with lids; plastic carrier bags of any colour or type; Pringles tubes (other brands of crisp are available:)) or similar; round sweet tins or very large (catering size) tins.

LilyPad Update
LilyPad will be open on Monday 4th September - usual times -   7:30 am in the morning and closing at 6:00 pm in the evening.  Please beware that we are unable to open before 7:30 a.m, the insurance does not cover us and the staff are setting up the provision to be a safe and fun environment for your children so can't look after your child before that time.

Arrangements for Dropping Off and Picking Up

We acknowledge that parking will be tricky so any options you can take to walk/bike or park further away and walk, e.g. from the lake end of Tadpole Garden Village, are much appreciated.  Please remember that parking on corners, the paved area outside the front school fence, half-on/off the pavement causes safety issues for the children and families.  The drop zone will operate in the mornings from 8:35 a.m.

The arrangements for term 1 will be as follows:-
YN - please use the side gate near the main entrance and drop at the door with Hedgehogs on it - drop off time is 8:40 or 12:20  - you're welcome to stay for 10-15 minutes to settle your child in to the class- pick up from same place 11:40 or 3:20 unless staying for lunch, in which case use the school office entrance for drop off for lunch club or pick up from lunch club (please note we are looking at other possibilities of using the small hall for this but we will update when the decision is finalised.
YR - please use the side gate near the main entrance - normal drop off time is 8:50 - please feel free to come 10 minutes earlier and settle your child in to the class - there will be activities out for them to get involved in - we would ask that you aim to say goodbye and leave the classroom by 8:55.  From Term 2 the doors will open at 8:50 and we ask that you drop your child at the door.  Pick up from same place.
Y1 - please use the front gate by the drop zone for drop off and then access via the side gate near the main entrance and pick up from the door with a Fox and a Badger on it, off main playground.
Y2 - please use the front gate near the drop zone - the children will use the door with the rabbit and mole on it - start time is 8:50 - we'd be grateful if you could drop at the gate and they walked in to the building on their own.  Please wait outside gate and staff will send children out to you.
Y3/4/5 - all children will use front gate by drop zone in morning and go in to school through Y2 entrance.  For pick up the children will come out of the side gate by the car park - the teachers will let your children out from the classroom but won’t look to see if you are there.  They will be expected to find you so it may help if you agree a meeting place.
LilyPad - drop off and pick up from the same gate as previously though children will use the door with the lilypad and frog on it... which has moved one door to the right.Provided that those dropping off or picking up from Lilypad are only doing that then you may use the Drop Zone as this is what it was designed for.
