Newsblog for End of School Year 2016/7

Hello All

What a year it has been - Tadpole Farm CE Primary Academy has now been open for three years (two years in our current building) and already we are judged to be good by both OFSTED and SIAMS inspectors... more importantly we are felt, by very many of you, to be providing a caring, innovative, community spirited place of learning where each and every child matters.  Thank you for the many lovely gifts and positive comments you have shared with all the staff - we really appreciate them very much!

We were given a life changing gift at the end of term - a portable defibrillator - from fundraising done by Janet's Puppy Skool http://www.janetspuppyskool.co.uk .  Obviously we hope that it's not needed but if it is then it could be a life changer - thank you so much for all your fundraising.

No dates for your diary this week as I'm sure you all have lots of exciting things planned...  towards the end of August, I will set out all the dates for the new school year in a long newsblog, so those of you that like to have as much warning as possible can put them in your calendar.  These dates will also be available on the school website.   Over the summer I will also be adding some photos from the school year to the web site so check in regularly to see what's there.

Things that might be useful to know for the holidays:-

Swindon Travel Choices - if you are out and about you might want to check out this website http://www.swindontravelchoices.co.uk   they have created a new orienteering route around Swindon cycle paths, which now include Tadpole Garden Village.  Also, if you live on Tadpole Garden Village, I've been asked to remind you to use your £50 travel voucher you were given when you moved in - apparently it will be honoured even if it's expired!

      Newsblog Term 6 Week 5

      Hello All

What an amazing performance this week by our Y1 and Y2 children - 'a strong wall of sound' as one parent commented.  It was a display of teamwork, support, encouragement and, for some children, a journey beyond that which we all expected them to go in terms of performing in front of others - wow, just wow! Well done to all involved.

Staff Training day -  staff in school; no children in school

Y1 and Y2 home learning hand in day extended
Many apologies but I understand that the home learning books for Year 1 and 2 haven't gone home for a couple of weeks whilst the children have been learning songs and lines for the performance.  They will come home on Monday so you can check the home learning plans (also available on the school website pupil pages).  For Badgers and Moles, please bring in your learning on Monday 17th July and for Foxes and Rabbits, please bring in your learning on Tuesday 18th July.  Thank you.
FOTF - Second Hand Uniform appeal
FOTF would be happy to receive any items of second hand uniform for their second hand uniform sale rail.  Please drop in to office and we will pass them on.
            Appeal for Lego update
We have had some very generous donations for this so far but are still needing more so if you have any or know of other families with older children who might donate any  complete sets with instructions they would be much appreciated for our Lego therapy sessions.
              Permission form and contributions reminders
Thank you to all those of you who have sent in permission slips and contributions for the Nursery Zoo Lab visitors and the Y1 and Y2 trip to Lydiard Park.  If you have not yet done so please send in by Tuesday 11th July.

              Invoices and Outstanding Payments
I thought it might be worth mentioning that, along with all schools across the UK, we are having our budgets cut back again this year even as costs for staff and resources go up and cash flow becomes ever more critical.  We want to protect the wider curriculum we offer and the support that all the children receive.  As a church school, we are open to supporting families in need and so, if you are unable to pay any requested costs, contributions or invoices for LilyPad/snacks/lunches then please get in touch and we would be willing to discuss payment plans.  If you have just forgotten to make a payment then please be aware that our financial accounts are made up at the end of this term so settlement has now become urgent.
If you use LilyPad and don't pay your bill, we will obviously have had to pay staff and resources costs, so that money then comes out of the general school budget and affects the provision we can make for all children. As you can appreciate, this is unfair so please can I request that all bills are settled by the end of this month - thank you.

                Hello All

We seem to have rapidly arrived at July - where does the time go?!  The children had a fantastic day on Friday finding out about different counters and cultures - a big thank you to those parents who gave up their time to help support this exciting event and to the staff who created the themes and resources - the children obviously loved every minute!

Staff Training day -  staff in school; no children in school

                    Reminders re this week
                    • No clubs this week - this does not affect WIMS11 and ballet as they are not school run clubs and should have let you know their term dates anyway.
                    • No Show Me sessions - the teachers are meeting re your children to ensure in-depth handover is done and we need to be mindful of the time they are working outside the school day so something had to give - SeeSaw and Tapestry will be available though and reports will be out next week so you will be well informed about your child's progress and learning.
                    Health and Safety News

Please be aware we still have cases of Headlice in school - the summer holidays are a good time for clearing out these little visitors - more advice here http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Head-lice/Pages/Introduction.aspx

Whilst waiting for your children at drop off or pick up, please keep an eye on any younger children who may be climbing on or playing near school equipment.  Some children have been climbing up on the blue and white dividers and running along the top - this is not safe and is not the purpose for which they are intended - thank you for your support in keeping all children safe.

                    Appeal for sets of Lego

If any of you are having a summer clear out, or are just feeling particularly generous, we require sets of LEGO for the new school year. Our aim is to offer 'LEGO therapy' in intervention groups throughout the school. It has proven to be an excellent session for improving pupils social skills and communication skills. Ideally we require complete sets which come with instructions for the activity to be carried out successfully. Please bring in to the office.

Ugly Bug Ball - YR and YN - and Tuesday 4th July YR Bug Hunt
On Monday the 17th July the children in YR and YN will be holding an Ugly Bug Ball to celebrate the end of their animal antics theme. Children can come into school on the day dressed up as their favourite bug or in brightly coloured clothes and will be making a mask at school.

As part of this week's learning, YR will all be going to the forest on Tuesday morning this week on a bug hunt. Children to come in wearing forest clothes please.
