    Moving Up

This week, the children have their first taste of moving up to the classes they will be in from September.  It's an exciting time - class lists will be available after that day as we like the children to find this out first.  We spend a considerable amount of time discussing who will be in what class and base this on month of birth, boy/girl, friendship groups, social skills, learning needs - they are not decisions taken lightly and are based on what we know about your child in school.  The way children learn here is very collaborative, across the whole year group they are in, so, whilst they may find themselves not with their best friend, rest assured they will be working together at times anyway and there is always playtime and lunch time to share news and spend time together.
      Summer Fayre Big Thank You
The FOTF have asked me to pass on their sincere thanks to all those of you who came to the summer fair on Saturday - your support is invaluable.  Equally a huge thank you to all those of you who volunteered your time to set up, run stalls and clear away at the end - without you events such as this would not happen.  News will follow on how much was raised but it was a great community day - thank you.

        Things to Do

          Summer Woodland Walks

We have been fortunate enough to secure some last minute dates for the children to take part in summer woodland walks - it's this week, which fits in very well with science week.  The children should come to school in forest school clothes, not school uniform, as this will help with getting all the children outdoors for as long as possible.  The timetable is as follows:-
          Monday 12/6 - Nursery children - Hedgehogs
          Tuesday 13/6 - Y2 children - Rabbits and Moles
          Wednesday 13/6 - Y1 children - Badgers and Foxes
Thursday 14/6 - YR children - Owls and Squirrels
Thank you for your support with giving the children access to high quality outdoor learning - we are very lucky to have this on our doorstep!
Appeal for Return of Borrowed Clothes

Could you check at home and see if you have any items borrowed from school - pants, socks, tights in particular - and return any items you find? We regularly buy additional stock but are finding ourselves very short of items again and would much appreciate any returns.

Staff Training day -  staff in school; no children in school

              FOTF News
We have raised over £3500 for Cancer Research from the Race for Life. We are going to leave the Just Giving page up until the end of the half term as we are still getting donations to it so dont want to miss out on those! We will be able to give a final figure when we have sent off the cheque after half term. It is an amazing amount that is far above that which we thought we would reach with the number of children in the school, thank you everyone!

The summer fair is fast approaching so we are looking for volunteers to help on the day setting up, during and clearing away afterwards. Please let one of the committee know if you are able to help. We also sent home cups for the jarbola on Friday to Yr N and Yr R and are asking for bottles (of anything) from Yr 1 and Yr 2 for the bottle tombola. These can be taken in to school on Friday 9th June for dress down day or at anytime before Monday 19th June. Also, if anyone has any gift bags hanging around that you no longer need please drop them in too, they make the bottle tombola a little more fun!
We will also be holding an end of year disco, date and time tbc.

A First Aid Course for Families

We have been asked to share the following details of a Family First Aid Course with you all - it's taking place on Saturday 1st July in our main school hall run by Millie's Trust.

              http://www.milliestrust.com/first-aid-courses/family-first-aid-courses?product_id=684

Bookings are now available for a first aid course for parents. Places are capped at 20 and will fill up quickly I'm sure, but please do advertise to your parents if you would like to. Places are free to parents of children under 1 years (or for those who can't afford to pay for it) although they have to pay a £20 refundable deposit to secure their place. (Refundable on the day when they turn up).

Opening of Y3/4/5 and welcome to all new parents and carers

Welcome to all our new parents and carers, who have now been included in our parents emails.

If you are a September 2017 Reception or Nursery parent you will now have had information about induction evenings and stay and play sessions.
We have sent off the Year 4/5 applications and hope to hear back from Swindon soon. There are spaces in these classes so spread the word if you know of families who may be interested in joining our community. We have Y4/5 induction days set up and can accommodate visits for a look around and chat most weeks.
Current Y2 parents moving in to Y3 in September - this message is for you - we would like to invite you for lunch with your child. The food at school is excellent and from September your child will no longer be eligible for free school meals. We would hope that many of them continue to have school meals and thought you might like the opportunity to come along and share lunch with them so you can see what you would be paying for. Our caterers have offered to do this for £1 per adult (school meals costs £2.30 a day) - see dates above, limited to 20 adults per session - please email in to school office if you would like to join us.

              Allotment Shout Out

Our school allotment is now ready - please email school if you are able to help and would like to be involved in this exciting community based initiative. We need tools, plants and, above all, hands on working the plot. Come and get involved :)
