Newsblog Term 4 Week 1

Hello All

The children have had a lovely first week back at school and the FOTF have done a wonderful job in designing and planting up the front planters with support from Dobbies and those of you who helped - what a great start to the term!  Thank you especially to Kirsty Rorks, who made the link with Dobbies and whose thoughtful design ideas mean that the planters will provide pleasure to many people.  The FOTF have asked that, though the planters are designed for the children to be able to use the stepping stones etc, we stay off them until the plants are well established.  There is plenty to look at already from the sides of the planters, especially the decorated stones and 'ponds' - lots of things to spot - thank you to everyone who helped.

This Term's Value and Class Worship
This terms value is courage - see web page for details http://tadpolefarmcepa.co.uk/parent-pages/home-school-values/
Just a reminder, it's Mole class worship on Tuesday, so if your child is in Mole class please join us at 3:00 pm for a worship on Courage lead by Mole class.
We will also be learning about Lent this term.  As a school community we will be taking up things for lent rather than giving up things.  This will be based on the 40 Acts idea - see https://40acts.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/40acts-school-pack-2017.pdf if you want to find out more, though there will be details each week in the blog during the rest of this term.

World Book Day
This week is World Book Day and on Thursday 2nd March the children may dress up as their favourite book character and can bring in the book that goes with their character if they wish.  During the day the children will be sharing books that they enjoy and taking part in a variety of activities about books and story writing.  Some examples of what they have been doing will be on display at the end of the day in the Main Hall and you are welcome to have a look between 3:30 and 4:00 pm.

Brief News
request for 2 litre plastic bottle to make rockets for YR - YR are studying space this term and are making rockets so would like donations of 2 litre plastic bottles if you have any to spare please - they are no longer collecting plastic milk bottles - thank you
roof update - thank you for your patience this week with the wind and the roof issue.  The roof panel has been strapped and we are awaiting a long term solution as the last 'long term solution' did not work.  If we have high winds again then we will email out if we feel using other entrances are safer.
traffic suggestions - parking and construction traffic - if you are waiting for children after school clubs please do not park in the drop zone as this is used for parents collecting from LilyPad.  We have had a request that construction traffic be stopped during school drop off and pick up times.  I have passed this request on to Crest but it is not a possible likely solution.  However some of the construction sites have now limited deliveries to after 9:00 and the development directly opposite school is having a dedicated haul road built which will reduce traffic on the road outside school after 1st April.  The developers do listen to our concerns and if you have specific examples of difficulties please pass them on to me with photographs if you can.

Newsblog Term3/4 Holiday

Hello All

I had planned to post this newsblog last weekend but then I became a granny a little earlier than expected and my week has largely been taken up with a very cute small addition to our family - Freddie, born after a long journey time and emotionally wise, on Monday 13/2 at 2:50 a.m.  Mummy, Daddy and baby all recovering and now at home.  It does make you realise how precious life is and how much we should cherish each and every child and our families. I hope you enjoyed the holiday with your families and here we are ready for term four of the academic year.

Last day of term 4 – school finishes normal time
Tapestry and See-saw
Thank you for your extremely positive feedback on these two apps - we're really glad they give you so much pleasure and spark more in-depth conversations about the learning your child has been doing.  They are very busy little people!  Access will again close this week whilst the children build up some more things to show you and will open again in the last week of term.

Class Start times
Just a reminder that Nursery children must be in by 8:40 as that's when they start their learning - there has been a drift towards 9:00 but this means that the children who are on time may have their learning interrupted by late arrivals and often the day beginnings with whole group learning so if you could please try and be in by 8:40 that would be very helpful.
Other classes are expected to be in by 8:50 - the drop zone (thank you for your feedback on this) will continue to run this coming term but closes at 8:50 so please make sure your child is in school by then - thank you.

Car park possible disruption
We were notified by Swindon Borough Council, in the last two days of last term, that the gravel bit of our car park (which belongs to Swindon) may be being finished this coming week.  I asked for it to be done in the holidays but no response was received so we may arrive to find workmen on site.  If this is the case please bear with us - they are meant to be sorting out the flooding there and also the surfacing.  I realise it will cause some issues but it is not our land so not under our control about timings.

Muddy Roads
I was on site this week and have put in a complaint re the state of the roads.  It was being sorted on Friday but just be aware that both roads and pavements may be muddier than usual.

Vacancies
We have some vacancies in school for 1:1 TA support, teachers and a part-time Assistant Principal/SENCO - all getting us ready for next academic year.  We also have vacancies for a premises manager and we haven't as yet had many applicants - we need your help - this is a 9 hour per week role to begin with and can be done outside school hours in the main - could even fit around a full-time job elsewhere.   It will involve looking after various building systems, testing lights etc and some DIY type roles.  If you know of anyone who may be interested in these roles then ask them to look on https://www.eteach.com/microsite/ourjobs.aspx?empid=39433
FOTF Big Planting Day - Volunteers needed
FOTF have very kindly negotiated with Dobbies to arrange some donations of plants for the planters at the front of school.  Many hands make light work, so please come along from 9:30 am on Friday morning 24th February and get involved - there will be tea, coffee and cakes and much job satisfaction :)   Please let the School Office know that you can help.
