No Clubs or Swimming this week
Just a quick reminder that there are no clubs or swimming this week.  Both start next week, week beginning 7th November.

Parents Meetings
You have all been allocated your 15 minute parent appointments and these take place on either Tuesday 1st or Thursday 3rd of November.  Meetings for YN parents between 12:30 and 2:15 please come to the School Office and Miss Evans will collect you from there.  All parents meetings from 2:30 onwards for all year groups will be in the main hall - please come in through the main school entrance and follow the signs.

FoodBank and Young Carer Update
Thank you so much for your very generous donations for the FoodBank and the Young Carer start up fund.
The FoodBank donations were collected this week. Whilst talking to the lady who came to collect, it became obvious how much your donations mean to the local community - the Swindon FoodBank ran out of food totally in the last few weeks and the organisation know that the situation will get worse towards Christmas.  To help out I suggested that we could do another collection in the middle of November and maybe include Christmas chocolates and biscuits etc for the Christmas hampers they give out to clients of the FoodBank - more news on this to follow.
The donations for Young Carers came to £103.20 and this will be used to kickstart our Young Carers Group here at school.  Attached to the email sent to all parents, and reproduced below, is a letter to all parents from Hannah Milsom, one of our Teaching Assistants, who will be working with support from Swindon Young Carers, to support Young Carers in our academy.  Please let us know if you feel your child is a young carer - we were surprised by how many fall in to this category even at such a young age and are keen to get this valuable support work started..

Wild Flower Meadow Planting - a reminder

This is taking place on 3/11/16 - all children will have opportunity to be involved so we would ask that all the children bring in Forest School clothes for that day.  We would appreciate parent helpers too, so if you can volunteer to help for either morning (please be at school for 9:00 a.m), afternoon (please be at school for 1:00 p.m) or all day (you can have a free school lunch if you help all day and our school lunches are very nice :)) please let the School Office know.

YR Start time from term 2 onwards
As all of the YR children are nicely settled now their start time will be 8:50.  Please encourage their independence by asking them to carry their own bags, do their own coats etc as this helps at break times and the end of the day.

Supporting your child with writing
I promised I would put a link in the newsblog to the handwriting website we use - it's www.letterjoin.co.uk and you can access from home using Username: Tad and Password:Pole

Missing sweatshirts etc.
We have had lots of missing jumpers in all years, mostly brand new from first weeks of term... nothing unusual you might think but there is because these were all named...please check names on jumpers at home and return any that are have been taken home by mistake - thank you.

FOTF Shopping Evening

The FOTF have organised a great Christmas shopping evening on Thursday 10th November, poster attached to email.  Over 20 stalls already confirmed with Christmas crafts, gifts, stocking fillers, skincare, preserves, candles, cards etc - your support of FOTF goes directly to providing facilities for your children - our new trim trail is part funded by your kind donations and support.  Look forward to seeing many of you there.

LilyPad Update
New menus for after school/breakfast club are attached to the email about this blog, with allergen information displayed also.

Just a reminder, we still have some emergency contact details forms outstanding - please return asap.  If you would like anyone extra (Nan/Childminder) to receive our newsblog please supply their email details to the School Office.

Letter from Hannah Milsom re Young Carers:

Dear Parents/Carers

At Tadpole Farm Church of England Primary Academy, we want Young Carers to be recognised, feel supported and know they have someone to speak to if they need help. We have a Young Carers School Approach and we have been talking about Young Carers in whole school worship and PSHE lessons.

Young Carers are children and young people, up to the age of 18, whose lives are affected by looking after someone. This may include physical or learning disabilities, long term illness, mental health illness, or drug or alcohol challenges. This may be a grandparent, parent, brother, sister or other family member.

The care they give maybe physical and /or emotional. These responsibilities may include:
  • Personal care
  • Housework
  • Lifting
  • Shopping
  • Giving Medication
  • Looking after brothers or sisters
  • Cheering them up
  • Helping fill in forms
  • Reminding them to do things

If you feel your child may be a Young Carer please let me know so that we can support them in school.

In addition to support at school, you may also want to consider making a referral to Swindon Carers Centre. The next steps after referral are:-
Every young carer can have an assessment of their needs. This will be completed by a Young Carers Support Worker and will help find the best services for the young carer. This normally takes about an hour and a Support Worker can meet in your own home or arrange an appointment at school. Once the assessment has been carried out, the Young Carers Support Worker will offer a number of choices based on the level of that assessment, that may include the following:
  • telephone, text or e-mail support
  • time out, away from home with a Young Carers Support Worker
  • activities in small groups during school holidays
  • short breaks and residential trips
  • weekly/fortnightly groups mixing with other young carers of the same age.
  • referral to other projects or groups
  • possible funding for individual activities
Further information and referral forms can be found here:-

If you would like further information about support for Young Carers at Tadpole Farm CEPA, you can return the attached slip to me.
