Book bags and belongings

To build even stronger communication links, all children from YR upwards have home learning books that go home each Friday and should be returned the following Thursday; in addition, all children from YR upwards will have reading books and Reading logs that go home each day.  To keep these as neat as possible a book bag is the best thing.  I know there was an issue with supplies of these which, we understand, is now resolved so if you could ensure your child has a book back for school we would be grateful.
On the subject of bringing things to school could you all do a check on everything that your child brings to school clothing wise to see that it is named.  We have a problem currently with identical coats and identical sweatshirts all unnamed so making it tricky to know whose is whose!
Children in YR and Y1 need their PE kits to be left in school.  Y1 have PE on both Monday and Tuesday and it would seem lots of kit is going home on Monday and not coming back - can I suggest it's left in school to make things easier for you.

Noticeboard
A reminder that this newsblog is now also in the noticeboard outside the front door - please check there for any urgent messages or reminders.

Lilypad news
If your child uses Lilypad and would have been in Lilypad on Monday 31st October the money for this will be refunded in the next billing cycle (school is closed that day for an INSET day).

Healthy School Initiative
We will soon be starting our application for healthy schools status - we already tick lots of the boxes but one that we need your help with is ensuring that food/drink brought in to school fits the recommendations.  Please could you ensure that:-
  • water bottles only contain water and not juice or squash - cartons of fruit juice may be bought in for packed lunches but must be started and finished at lunchtime
  • Lunchbox contents should be healthy - could we ask that they do not contain any sweets or nuts and are of a portion size that will keep your child going all afternoon but that they can eat within a reasonable time.
May we also remind you that our school is a no smoking site - this includes electronic cigarettes.

Y1 Forest School
Just a quick note to clarify, the Y1 children will be doing Forest School in small groups over this term - you will be notified by email and letter in book bags when it is your child's turn to go and what they need to bring.

Y2 Swimming
A reminder to those of you who said you were paying your contribution for Y2 swimming on line - not many payments have appeared on our account yet, please check that your payment was made - thank you.

FOTF News
You will have all had a newsletter from the FOTF - attached again to Newsblog email - take a look at Easy Fundraising; can you help with finding stall holders for the shopping evening? - don't forget the coffee morning on the first Wednesday of the month.

Newsblog - Term 1 - Week 2 :)

Hello All,

It was very exciting to have all of our new YN and YR children in this week - we are now the size of a two classes per year Infant School - growing, from being in just two rooms in the community centre 2 years ago, to this has been an enjoyable and exciting journey - thank you for taking it with us.  As everyone settles in in the next few weeks and routines become known and established we will be thinking forward to the opening of the Key Stage 2 classes next September.  Our current Year 2's will be the first Year 3 classes we have and we are also opening one class for Year 4 and Year 5 - if you know of families who would be interested in these year groups please ask them to get in touch for a look around - we are already collecting application for these classes and have a growing list!

Clubs for Y1 and Y2
Clubs start this week - see above for dates and below and attached to email for clubs list showing who is in which club.  All clubs run from 3:30 - 4:30 - after clubs please collect all children from the Year 1 entrance.   All children who requested at least 2 clubs have 2 clubs; those who requested one club have one club.  The cooking club has 11 applicants so will run for 8 weeks rather than 4 weeks but is now closed to further requests.

Football club - a reminder that this costs £1.50 per week until Christmas; then cost will rise to £3 per week.  Payment details will be given out by club leader (WIMS11) in first session.  For this first session, children may wear football or PE kit; trainers or football boots and shin pads.  Further details will be given out by club leader in first session.

Cooking Club - this costs £1 per week to cover ingredients.  Please also bring a plastic container for your cooked goodies.

Gymnastics club - children may wear PE kit or leotards and will do gymnastics in bare feet.

Playground Update
You may have noticed that there is some work going on in the playground - we are having an all-weather surfaced trim trail put in, made of natural woods.  This has been partly funded by your support of the Friends of Tadpole Farm - thank you - and by our PE grant, which supports keeping the children fitter and healthier.
We also hope, weather permitting, to have some playground markings put in on 30th September by a team of volunteers from Nationwide - our third volunteer team, for whom we are very thankful, supported by funding from the FOTF - another big thank you.  The markings will be the basis for different games the children can play and will brighten up our outdoor space considerably.

Parking and Pathways
You will have noticed that the field opposite school is beginning to be prepared for building work and that the field on the bend as you come to school is also being developed.  In addition the builders working on the houses next to school are now ready to complete the frontages.  Whilst all these things will finish eventually, there ill be disruption in the meantime.  The pathway to school will be diverted whilst the neighbouring houses are completed and you may have to cross over and cross back again - such arrangements are being out in place to keep you and your children as safe as possible. I have fed back to the developers your comments about the speed of driving and the lack of consideration of some of the drivers on the site and they will action this, as they have before.  It is, I understand, a constant battle on construction sites so please continue to be vigilant, continue to let me know of any issues (with registration details if you can) and I will take things up on your behalf.
Parking wise, I have spoken to a number of parents who feel that others are still parking inconsiderately - a reminder - no parking in the drop zone; no parking in anything other than a designated car park space within the school grounds; only those with Blue Badges to park in disabled spaces; no parking half on half off the kerbs outside. Thank you for your cooperation.

FOTF News
The first meeting of the FOTF group was very well attended and there are many exciting events coming up.  If you know of a great live band that would be just perfect for the upcoming Masquerade Ball, please get in touch with FOTF via Gill Edwards in the School Office by email or in person ... more details to follow on the ball itself!

Thank you from all staff for presents and good wishes
The staff have asked me to pass on their many thank-yous for the presents, kind words and good wishes given at the end of last term.  Your feedback and appreciation are highly valued by us all.

Friends of Tadpole Farm (FOTF)

A note from Laura, the Chair of FOTF, our parent-led fundraising group:
Our first meeting for this term is on Wednesday 14th September, 19:45 at The Jovial Monk, Highdown WaySaint Andrews RidgeSwindon SN25 4YD.  All friends, old and new are welcome - as a parent of a child at Tadpole Farm you are automatically part of the FOTF - come along and find out about what we do and ways you can help.
Our first monthly coffee morning this term will be on Wednesday 5th October - we'll be using The Hub community room and will be there to welcome you from 8:50 - 10:00.  There will be a small raffle along with second hand uniform rail, refreshments and toys for pre-schoolers to play with... look forward to seeing you there.

Medicines in School
We have had an audit of our medical support for your children and have been advised that we can only administer medicines if they have been prescribed by a doctor.  We have been, for example, giving eye drops bought by parents at the chemist for children who have eye infections.  Sadly, we will no longer be able to do this.  If your child can be in school but needing medicine of any kind then it must be prescribed by a doctor, have the detailed dosage information specific to your child (as per the labels that the pharmacist sticks on when you pick up a prescription) and you must have completed a medical form (as you do now).  This does mean that any non-prescribed Calpol, Piriton etc cannot be given by school staff. Apologies for the inconvenience this may cause but we must follow the guidance we are given by the medical professionals.

PE kits, wellies, coats
Please make sure your child has named PE Kit, wellies and a coat in school every day.  The wellies and PE kits can be kept in school.

Picking up, dropping off and passwords
Thank you for supporting our first week of drop-offs and pick ups.  A few tweaks are needed...
YN and YR children will always need dropping at their doors - if you have children in other year groups we realise this means two drop points but hopefully timing wise this will become easier as all the children settle in.
Y1 and Y2 - if you have children in both these classes then please feel free to drop them both at the same door, either Y1 or Y2, and the children can walk through school to their cloakroom.  For pick up we will send the Y2 children, who have siblings in Y1, to the Y1 entrance from Monday 12th September unless you tell us you would rather not do that.
Parking - please avoid parking in the Drop Zone - this is only to be used if you are dropping and then, within a minute or so, driving away or if you are dropping off/picking up from LilyPad.
Passwords - please make sure that you have a password set for picking up, particularly from Lilypad so that all the staff can check if you are the person who is meant to be collecting your child - it just keeps them safe, especially in these early days as we are getting to recognise you and your family.

Y2 Swimming
A reminder that Y2 swimming starts this week.  All Y2 parents have had a letter about this - please bring monies and permission slips into school, if not already done, by Monday 12th September.
