Welcome Back Celebration

On the afternoon of the first day that the children are back, we are going to have a celebration - as it's the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl's birth we have decided to go for dressing up based on Roald Dahl characters - there's a summer holiday project for you all!!  Lots of ideas on http://www.roalddahl.com/home/kids
Please note that, due to numbers, we are asking that YN and YR parents/carers and children come from 2:00 - 2:30 and Y1 and Y2 parents come from 2:30 - 3:15 pm.
YN - children who are already in YN (those who started with us in January 2016) can come to school already dressed up; children who are having 1 hour settling in sessions in the morning should be collected at the end of the hour and then may come back with their parent/carer at 2:00 pm to join in the fun.  All YN children are invited to come along with parents/carers at 2:00 pm to join our party.
YR - children who are in the morning session should be collected at 12:30 pm - all YR children, costumed and ready for fun, are invited to come to school with parent/carers at 2:00pm.
Y1 and Y2 - children may come to school in the morning in Roald Dahl themed costumes. Parents and carers are invited to join us at 2:30 pm - please note different time to YN and YR due to space and safety issues - any parent coming will collect their child from their usual classroom collection door before enjoying the activities on offer.  Any child whose parent/carer can't make it will be part of the teachers groups and will enjoy the same activities too.
Those of you that have a child in both YN/YR and Y1/2, so will obviously want to stay on, will need your YN/YR child to stay with you for the 2:30 - 3:15 slot.  This time will be for Y1/2 to enjoy the activities and, as your YN/YR child will have already had their opportunity, they will need to stay with you.
The activities are still being planned - watch out for a newsblog at end of August!

Parent Feedback Questionnaire
Thank you to all those of you who have responded to the parent questionaire - so far 53 responses - would be great to get to 100! We welcome all feedback and will produce a full report on this in September.

Swimming - Y2
Our Year 2 children will begin swimming lessons on Wednesday 14th September.  A letter will come home on the 5th September with full details and reply slips.  However, to give you as much notice as possible, the voluntary contribution asked for will be £25.00 per 10 week block of sessions, payable by 9th September.  This covers the cost of the transport and school cover the cost of the pool hire etc.  The children will do three 10 week blocks over the academic year - full dates will be given in the letter in September.  As part of this activity the children will also be using the sports hall at the sports centre in Cricklade so, each Wednesday when they are swimming, we will ask that they come to school on those days in their full outdoor PE kit:
Black jogging bottoms or leggings
Black shorts
Black daps / plimsolls
Plain white t-shirt
Royal Blue Tadpole Farm hooded jumper/black sweatshirt type top

Lilypad update
All those of you who have booked Lilypad session will be pleased to hear we have recruited a great team to help us accommodate all your requests - if you have requested a Lilypad place then it has been approved as you requested.  Those of you who have asked for shift patterns or week1/week 2 patterns we have also accommodated you this time but please be aware that it is increasingly difficult to offer this flexibility so we may need to review this for 2017/18.
In order to accommodate the end of year accounts at school and the settling in periods at the start of next term invoices for Lilypad will be sent out as follows (please note that this will mean 2 payments being requested in one month):
YN - children who were already in YN, and who use Lilypad, will be attending Lilypad as usual in the first week back and will be invoiced on 5th September, with payment by 15th September, for September usage and again on 20th September for October usuage; children new to YN will not be able to use Lilypad in the settling in period but once they are in on their regular session they will use their booked spaces  - invoices for these children will go out on 20th September and will cover both September sessions and October sessions, with payment due by 1st October.
YR - can use the booked Lilypad sessions that join on to their settling in sessions and you will be invoiced for these sessions on 20th September - the invoice will cover both September sessions and October sessions, with payment due by 1st October.
Y1/2 - will be billed in first week back for September usage, payable by 15th September; October's bill will be issued on 20/9 for payment by 1st October.

Thank you for supporting The Lion's Journey and End of Term Service
Thank you to all of you that came along and supported the The Lion's Journey - contributions to our djembe set now stand at £343.11 - thank you.  It was also lovely to see so many of you at the end of term service yesterday - the children always amaze me at how much confidence and understanding they have at such a young age - we were all very proud of them for both the events.

Winners of Edward and Ward Summer competition
The following children all won a Sports Direct voucher in the recent Edwards and Ward competition - Izzy E, Lucas C, Briel, Isla G and Ben W - enjoy spending :)

North Swindon Community Fun Day - Community Event Promotion

This annual event for children and families will take place at Brook Park in Redhouse on Saturday 3rd September, 1.00pm – 6.00pm, just across from Isambard School. Lots going on for children and families. Please “save the date!”

Join in there, it will be a great local family fun afternoon. And even better news …All monies raised will support “Butterflies” our local Families centre right here in North Swindon.

Enjoy the holidays...
We hope you all enjoy the holidays, whether you are at home or away - this website has lots of great ideas for things to do http://www.dayoutwiththekids.co.uk/things-to-do/swindon and I can thoroughly recommend Cirencester Open Air Pool http://www.cirenopenair.co.uk.

Summer Holiday Reading Challenge - extract from Big Friendly Read website

The Big Friendly Read is celebrating 100 years of the world’s greatest storyteller, Roald Dahl. It is aimed at 4-11 year olds and is simple and fun! Children sign up at their local library, and then read (or listen to) six library books to gain a medal* and certificate, collecting limited edition Quentin Blake cards along the way – all for FREE!
Children’s reading can ‘dip’ during the long summer holidays if they don’t have regular access to books and encouragement to read for pleasure. This can be a problem for schools to put right in the new term, and The Reading Agency’s annual Summer Reading Challenge really helps by getting three quarters of a million children into libraries over the summer. There is no other free reading activity that involves so many children, introduces families to their library, encourages children to choose books freely and independently and is endorsed by parents, teachers and the department for education.
Download our guides to a great range of awesome reads to try over the summer: Complete Guide to Recommended Summer Reading 2016,

The BFG is being released in UK cinemas on 22nd July. Join up to the Challenge between 9th and 24th July to be in with a chance to win a cinema voucher kindly donated by Cineworld…and you could go see this splendiferous film (or any others over the summer) for free!
After reading the 1st book children can enter a competition to win prizes ranging from books, to vouchers donated from local businesses**. After 2 books there are whoopsy whiffling wristbands available* (subject to availability) and after 5 books there is a voucher to borrow a children’s DVDs for free.
On days you can’t get to the library, there is still The Big Friendly Read website, (www.bigfriendlyread.org.uk ) with so much for children to discover. Children can keep a record of their Challenge, recommend books and decide what to read next using the Book Sorter
This week's hot weather

The weather forecast this week is predicting hot weather  - please could you make sure your child has suncream and sun hat in school - thank you.  With the gazebos provided by Crest Nicholson we now have more shade available in the playground, which will help too.
