Newsblog for week beginning 27th June

Hello All,

In this week's newsblog:-

  • Thank you for your support
  • Sports Day update
  • Moving up sessions
  • Reminders - no clubs this week; YN Zoo lab contributions; YN last week of Forest School; YR 2016 Parents Meetings; Mrs Smith's last day in YN; Zumba fundraising event this Friday.

Thank you for your support
I would like to say a huge thank you for all the hard work of the FOTF, staff and volunteers from the community who put on an amazing Summer Fayre on Saturday - thank you also to the many of you who came along and supported the Fayre.  Despite the odd shower, for which the new gazebo's provided by Crest Nicholson as part of the Community Interest Company's resources proved very useful, we all enjoyed the many different stalls and activities that were available.  The final figure is yet to be arrived at but a comment from the committee at the end was that they felt we had raised, with your help, much more than they thought possible- figures will be announced soon - thank you, the new trim trail for your children is one step closer.

Thank you also to all those of you with children in our Hedgehog class who came along and supported the bug picnic last week - the children really enjoyed sharing their learning with you.

Sports Day update
Whilst I enjoy the event of Sports Day itself, the run up to the day is one of those things most headteachers dread - constantly looking at weather forecasts and trying to second guess when and if the rain will come!  You are invited to join us for Sports Day which, as notified previously, is this coming Tuesday 28th June.  Please arrive for 1:45pm and use the gate around the side of the school that leads directly on to the playground.  The children will be moving, in class groups, around different activities so please feel free to bring a portable chair if you wish to, as we won't be putting chairs outside.  There will be a chance for the parents to take part in an event - it does involve water and I don't just mean the rain, so come prepared.  Nursery children, who do not normally come to the afternoon session, are welcome to attend but please let either the School Office or one of the Hedgehog class team know.
The children are used to being outside in all weathers so, if showers are predicted, it's likely we'll go ahead anyway; but if heavier rain is expected then we will make a decision by 10:30 a.m. and let you know by text if the event is being cancelled.

Moving up sessions
The first of our moving up sessions, where our new Reception children visit, our current Receptions move up to Year 1 and our current Year 1's practise being Year 2's, happens this Thursday 30th June.  The children will find out which registration groups they are in then and will, I'm sure, let you know.

Reminders -
  • no clubs this week - last week was the last week of clubs for this term so all children, unless they are booked in to Lilypad, will need collecting at 3:30 each day until the end of the term - thank you
  • YN Zoo lab contributions - if your child is in Hedgehog, Nursery class, and you haven't yet sent in the contribution to the Zoo Lab visitors they are having please send in asap
  • YN last week of Forest School - this week is the last week of Forest School for YN - it's group 2's run - names were sent last week - please make sure they have change of clothes in school
  • YR 2016 New Parents Meetings - those of you who have children joining YR in September 2016 have a parents meeting full of information about this next step in their learning adventure on Wednesday 29th June 6pm in the school hall
  • Mrs Smith's last day in YN - just a reminder as some of you have been asking, Emma Smith's last day before going on maternity leave is this Friday, 1st July.
  • Zumba fundraising event this Friday - the next FOTF fundraiser is a Zumba event this Friday 1st July - see posters around school for further details.

We are required to practise various emergency scenarios, such as fire drills, and wanted to let you know that we will be having a critical incident practise tomorrow, Monday.  If your child comes home and tells you that there has been a wild dog loose in the playground please be reassured that this is just the basis for our critical incident and not a real event.  We would prefer you not to pre-warn your children of the practise.  Thank you.

Health and Safety News

With the summer coming and the grass being drier we've noticed the children have been playing around the bicycle and sprinkler housing area whilst waiting for school to open or after school.  This is not a safe area for them to be in without direct adult supervision as it's very near the hedgerow/drainage ditch and there is a composting area there too.  Please could you ask your children not to play in that area and keep them within your sight at all times - thank you.

Lilypad update

Term 6 is here and what some fantastic weather we are having. Our topic in after school club this term is holidays, we will be making our very own passports along with luggage labels and writing postcards. It would be great if the children, who use the Lilypad, could bring in a photo of themselves on holiday, for us to add to our topic board.

FOTF - Summer Fayre News

The 25th June is fast approaching and lots of planning and preparation is already underway for the Summer Fayre.  On Monday 20th June children are invited to wear their own clothes for the day in exchange for bringing in items for the Jarbola stalls:-

Y1 - children will be sent home with plastic cups to fill with something nice for children to win, this could be bouncy balls, small toy cars or soldiers, small colouring pencils or pens, stickers, novelty erasers/sharpeners, playdough, hair clips/bands, anything chocolatey or sweet always goes down well too…..the choice is yours.

Getting ready for Term 6

Hello All,

We hope you have had a lovely end of May break - we're looking forward to hearing all about it next week.

In this week's blog:-

  • Summer uniform
  • Can you help with donations for playtimes?
  • INSET June 17th reminder
  • Menu changes
  • Year 1 first day back
  • YN Forest School information
  • Staffing news

Summer uniform
Many of the children are already wearing summer uniform but I have been asked to clarify the situation re sandals - open toed sandals are not recommended for school as children often bang their toes etc so please can any sandals that are worn be closed toed - thank you.

Can you help with donations for playtimes?
If you are having a clear out this summer, our play leaders are building up wet play and small world play boxes to be used outside.  They would appreciate donations of small cars Matchbox type); Playmobile type toys; anything small world that could be used outside; books for the outside book boxes; picnic blankets; DVDs for wet playtimes (let's hope we don't have too many of those!).  Please take any donations to the office - thank you.

Term Dates and INSET June 17th reminder
A reminder that we are back in school on Monday 6th June and the last day of term is Friday 22nd July.  We have an INSET day on Friday 17th June; school is closed to pupils that day - Mrs Edwards will arrange credits re LilyPad, lunches etc for those children who have already paid for this day.   We will again be used as a polling station - 23rd June - but will be open as before.

Menu changes
Edwards and Ward have asked us to let you know that where the menu says crumble we have changed this to pineapple sponge - the children did not like the crumble as much as sponge.  If this causes you any concerns please contact School Office.

Year 1 first day back
Miss Grindley and Mrs Flynn have asked that the children in Year 1 come to school on Monday 6th June in football kit or sports kit - this is linked to their topic for this term.  They do not need to bring in their uniform.

Staffing news

Emma Smith, who currently leads our YN classes, will be going on maternity leave on Friday 1st July.  To ensure a good handover, we have already been working with the teacher who will be covering her maternity leave, Grace Evans.  Both Grace and Emma will be working YN from Monday to continue their handover period.  Grace, who has previously taught elsewhere, has been working with our Year 1 team since September and has been working closely with Emma and the YN team since Easter getting to know the children and immersing herself in the excellent learning approaches of YN.
Charlotte Warren, who currently works in YR as one of the teaching support staff, will be beginning her maternity leave at the end of term 6.
Some of you have been asking who will be your child's registration group teacher from September - I like the children to be the first to know this, so they will find out on 30th June when we have 'shuffle up' time - an opportunity to move to their new class - I'm sure they will tell you after that.
In terms of year groups, the teachers will be:-
YN - Grace Evans
YR - Emma Holt and Vicky Davidson
Y1 - Alison Flynn and Kimberley Webb
Y2 - Sam Grindley and Sarah Baker
The rest of the teaching teams will be announced once we have recruited our new teaching assistants.  Rest assured that we consider the placing of children in registration groups very thoughtfully, ensuring a mix of boys/girls/ages/abilities/personalities/needs in each registration group.
