Despite beginning the process in April we have yet to receive our school telephone line or broadband. This week Open Reach informed us that, by someone's error, our order had been cancelled. We are back on the system now and a telephone engineer came today but he could only connect us as far as the road and then a cable engineer connects us from road to exchange... So, if you need to contact school you may use my personal mobile number until we get the phone line - it is 07733 264202. Once we have the phone line, I will ask you to stop using it - those of you that were with us last year will recall a very similar scenario and we all managed well enough until things were sorted. We have limited internet connection through a 3G router so, unless it's an emergency, please email messages to firstname.lastname@example.org as this will minimise calls to my mobile. It should only be a week or so until things are sorted - so I am told! Apologies for any inconvenience and rest assured I am on the case daily.
Wednesday 2nd September
The first day back for some of the children. You will know what your child's days/times are but if you are unsure please contact me. All the children and yourselves are invited to the Pirate Party - your child should have had a letter about it (we sent out over a hundred so accept that some may have gone astray) but if not the details are below. It will be a chance for a first shared experience to begin our joint story and memories of being in the new building - ooo rrrrr me hearties it should be fun!
In terms of getting to school, both the Oakhurst and Crest show home road entrances will be open. It is very muddy so take care and please be careful about your children scooting ahead of you as there are construction traffic movements constantly. The contractors know you are coming but just take extra care whilst they get used to seeing us. If you are driving, there are lay-bys on the road outside school and you may use the car park down the side of the school at this initial stage until we all get used to the morning and pick up routines. If driving out of the Crest show home end please take care as traffic coming along Tadpole Lane often does not stop at the T-junction with the road you will be on (I think the same will be true now they have opened the Oakhurst end too) - I've had some close encounters there this summer so thought I'd share that caution with you!
Many of you offered to help with unpacking and setting up - which was lovely of you - but things seem to have come in batches and we seem on track. We do need about 8-10 strong people to help lift the Hobbit house out of the shipping container and over to the Reception play area - if you can come at about 3:00 on Tuesday 1st September text me - if not sufficient numbers will try for Pirate Party time.
We also need help filling our planters (they didn't get time to do this on the community day) and any donations of bags of compost would be greatly appreciated. At our INSET day we'll be making a list of jobs we'd like help with and I'll circulate this to you so you can see what talents you can offer us :)
Monday 7th September
Just a reminder that you are all invited to join us on Monday 7th September at 11:00 a.m. for our official opening and the blessing of the school by the Right Reverend Mike Hill, Bishop of Bristol. If your child does not normally attend on that session please come along with them anyway to share in this special occasion.
Ridgeway Farm CE Academy
You may have seen, in the local press, that our academy trust, Diocese of Bristol Academies Trust, have been successful in their bid to open a new school at Ridgeway Farm, Purton, in 2016. In order to use the experiences we have had as a school community, I am to be the Executive Principal on a temporary basis; once a Principal is appointed for the school, I will then take a supportive role until the school is up and running. Rest assured I will be at Tadpole and you'll have my attention and dedication as usual; luckily I'm used to working on multiple projects at once!
Bear with us
As we start the new school year, in this lovely new learning space, bear with us - things will not go smoothly at first - we will have missed things and some things will be irritating - talk to me, tell me what’s bothering you, nothing is insoluble; don’t keep things to yourself - if you see better ways, share them - together we make the school community a special place to be. We look forward to sharing this special year with you and your family. Enjoy the last few holiday days and we'll see you soon.
A few tasters of what's in school...
